Overview

As primary care providers, you are constantly encountering a dizzying array of medication options and patient questions regarding advertised medications. You are responsible for managing complex medication regimens including treatments you may not be intimately familiar with. In addition, safety concerns and new indications for old medications arise regularly. Through the use of a case-based format, speakers will highlight innovations in drug therapies, review new indications for old medications, and discuss medication side effects and drug interactions. Individual presentations will be followed by Q&A during which participants will be able to ask questions.

Target Audience

This course designed for family physicians and other primary care providers including internists, pediatricians, osteopathic physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and others interested in medication management.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

Evaluate the risks and benefits of new inpatient and outpatient drug therapies.
Discuss new developments in the drug treatment of selected clinical conditions.
Make more informed drug treatment decisions in the outpatient setting.
Identify and educate about new FDA approved medications.
Review seminal articles supporting changes to prescribing practices.
Discuss important drug interactions and medication side effects.
