Overview

This hybrid conference will be held in-person at the Thomas B Turner Building, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, 720 Rutland Ave, Baltimore, MD 21205 and virtually via Zoom.

As the older adult population lives longer and becomes increasingly diverse, it is imperative that we offer high quality continuing education in the care and management of geriatric patients. Most physicians have received very little or no formal geriatrics training, despite this growing trend in the number of older adults they care for. This activity is designed to provide practical information to clinicians and healthcare professionals who care for older adults. It will address the specific challenges faced by providers and support team in the diagnosis and management of dementia. Other challenging topics will include dementia, COVID-19 and health screening in the older adult population. The activity will improve knowledge about diseases and syndromes common in the elderly and offer practical and effective guides to their management.

We wish to acknowledge the support of the Johns Hopkins Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This activity is intended for geriatricians, internists, family practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, physical therapy and other health professionals involved in caring for seniors.

Objectives

  1. Describe the path from diagnosis to management of a person with dementia and the role of the health care team.
  2. Identify common geriatric syndromes, and approaches to, and limits of management of specific disease of organ systems that are common in older adults (CHF, hypertension, Diabetes and Polypharmacy).
  3. Recognize the growing diversity in the older population and awareness of health inequities when providing care to meet their individual needs.
  4. Describe important research developments that influence the clinical care of geriatric patients.
