Course Overview

Penn Medicine Advanced Multimodality Cardiac Imaging Symposium 2024 The rapid growth of advanced cardiac imaging has led to significant developments in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of cardiac diseases. Given the increasing utilization of multimodality imaging in cardiology, it is critical that clinicians, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, understand the applications, strengths, limitations, and areas for future research and development of advanced imaging in the care of patients with cardiac diseases.

In this symposium, we will specifically address applications and advances in cardiac imaging in the following cardiac conditions: valvular heart diseases, aortopathies, cardiomyopathies, genetic heart diseases, coronary artery disease, and atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.

Target Audience
Specialties – FAMILY MEDICINE, INTERNAL MEDICINE, INTERNAL MEDICINE – Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE – Cardiovascular Disease, INTERNAL MEDICINE – Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE – Interventional Cardiology, RADIOLOGY , RADIOLOGY – Nuclear Radiology
Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review the role of advanced imaging in the diagnosis of native valve disease, prosthetic valve disease, and aortopathies
  2. Discuss the application of echocardiography and computed tomography in transcatheter valve therapies
  3. Describe the role of echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and nuclear imaging in diagnosing cardiac amyloidosis, and understand diagnostic challenges
  4. Review the complementary role of nuclear imaging and cardiac MRI in diagnosing and monitoring cardiac sarcoidosis
  5. Describe the imaging features of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and imaging phenocopies
  6. Explain the role of cardiac MRI in risk stratification of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  7. Discuss the application of advanced cardiac imaging to guide septal reduction therapies and track response to novel treatments in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  8. Review the utilization of noninvasive cardiac imaging for the evaluation of suspected or known coronary artery disease and for viability assessment
  9. Discuss the role of echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI in the evaluation and management of patients with atrial and ventricular arrhythmias
